Savannah Wood and Bilphena Yahwon are Baltimore-based creators whose work is often influenced by history. In this conversation, they shared how they use archival practices to uncover obscured stories and to explore familial lineages.
Speakers
Savannah Wood is an artist and cultural organizer with deep roots in Baltimore and Los Angeles. As the Archives Director for the 128-year-old AFRO American Newspapers, and the Executive Director of Afro Charities, she creates programming and infrastructure to increase access to the AFRO’s rich archives.
Bilphena Yahwon is a Baltimore-based writer, abolitionist, and restorative practice specialist born in Liberia, West Africa. She is the curator of her online library, The Womanist Reader & a collective member of the interdisciplinary publishing initiative, Press Press. She has recently launched Archive Liberia, a personal archive chronicling Liberian history.
