Denisio Truitt is a Liberian-American visual artist, designer, and dressmaker She is also the founder and owner of Dopeciety, an apparel brand featuring her original artwork.
Denisio received her Bachelors of Art from Washington and Lee University where she studied English Literature and Studio Art. During her time there she worked in the theater department and learned the fundamentals of costume design.
Dopeciety’s clothing has been featured in both television and film including Queen Sugar, See You Yesterday, and the short Suitable. Currently, Denisio’s design focus is on bespoke fashion with an emphasis on stage performance, weddings, and formal events. She has designed red carpet looks for the Grammy’s as well as stage performance looks for Essence Fest, Jazz Fest, and the Kennedy Center. Denisio is also invested in creating custom wardrobes and “uniforms” for creative workers. Her own capsule collections are available in short runs.
Of her vision for design, she writes: “My aim is to make garments that celebrate and exalt the human body in its infinite forms, with an emphasis on the feminine. I make clothing for individuals who want to feel beautiful and perhaps a little dangerous.”
