DIGITAL RESIDENT
Kyrae Dawaun

OCTOBER 2025

From the Northern MidAtlantic region of the United States, Kyrae Dawaun is demonstrating an expansion of painting history and milieu, leading a conceptual practice toiling in the chemistries of earthen, organic, and synthetic material matter, for paint technologies, to create objects, and choreographed exhibitions. His work is critical of national priority in dominion, and competition. He uses metaphor found in material studies to prompt questions about these social dynamics. Dawaun received his MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020. He has been invited to work, reside, and exhibit in Italy, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Berlin. Recent exhibitions include In-Practice at Sculpture Center in Long Island City (2021,) ”Doing the Work” at the Kreeger Museum (2023), “A Red Fare,” part of the Sondheim Prize Finalist Exhibition (2023), and “The Irony of Capacity, a dark black comedy,” the culmination as a 2021–2023 Hamiltonian Artists Fellow. He currently resides in Washington D.C.
