Oshun Layne was the inaugural Guest Curator for The Nicholson Project. She has worked with Nicholson since its inception as part of the lead consultant and curatorial team Dashboard. As Guest Curator, Oshun works directly with our artists-in-residence in supporting and developing resident projects including exhibitions and community engagement activities.

Oshun was born and reared in Brooklyn, NYC with a passion for visual arts and its ability to communicate a sense of inclusiveness across cultures, genders, and generations. Over the last decade, she has developed and nurtured an extensive career in arts leadership that includes institutional, gallery, and non-profit project management experiences. Through arts education, programming, artist development, strategic partnerships, and mentorship, she has been successful in bringing multicultural and multidisciplinary art forms to diverse populations.

Her curatorial and arts administration experience has given her the opportunity to work and partner with numerous institutions, which include the American Museum of Natural History, Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora Art (MoCADA), Scope Art Fair, Wassaic Project, Prizm Art Fair, The Barnes Foundation and African American Museum of Philadelphia, to name a few. In 2016, she was selected by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women Club, Inc. as a Professional Award Honoree. In the same year, Oshun further honed her professional leadership and development when she was chosen to participate in the American Express Leadership Academy.

Oshun is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Urban Policy and Planning with an emphasis on Non-Profit Management at Hunter College. When Oshun isn’t spending time advocating for the arts, you can find her at the local comic book store, enjoying time with friends and family, or traveling.
